Bruges, the old capital of Flanders is famed for its medieval town centre, dominated by the 79 metre high Belfry. For the energetic the 366 step climb to the top, with its 47 bell carillon, is well worth the effort, but a more relaxing way to begin a visit is to take a canal tour, enlivened with commentary and anecdote. Bruges has many other treasures, including, in the Church of Our Lady, one of the few sculptures by Michael Angelo to be on public view outside Italy, and it is a centre for genuine handmade Belgium lace. For recreation the Boudewijnpark on the outskirts has a range of activities.

Blankenberge / Wenduine

These two family seaside resorts are near neighbours, being about four kilometres apart. They both have good beaches with safe bathing in marked areas. Excursions may be taken to Bruges, one of Europe's great show places, and other places of interest are within a short distance.

Ghent, the capital of East Flanders and Belgium's second port, is a bustling town, famous for Van Eyck's celebrated polyptych 'The Adoration of the Lamb' and its many 15th Century Guild Houses and the 12th Century Castle of the Counts.

The towns of Sluis and Middleburg are not far from the resorts, with their many individual attractions. Excursions are based on a 50 mile radius per day.

Brussels

Centrally situated, Brussels is an ideal centre for groups wishing to visit the delightful Belgian Ardennes as well as the many attractions in the capital itself. The cities of Wallonia and Flanders are all within reasonable distance.
The Battlefield of Waterloo, the Lion Statue, the Panorama and the museums could be included in a half day visit.

In Brussels your programme could include the Grande Place, Mannekin Pis, the Courts of Justice, the Museums in the Park of Cinquantenaire, St Michael's Cathedral, and the Basilica of Koekelberg.
